This Degree Requirement Workshop for entering students demystifies the “close reading” process, defines the Goddard annotation, and looks at guidelines and options for critical papers. With the goal of developing *your* personal, craft-based approach, we will engage in a group process of analyzing sample works in various genres. Using the details and patterns that emerge, we will explore how to locate a range of worthwhile avenues for critical response to any literary text. No advance reading is required; brief handouts will be provided. Required for G1 (and readmitted) students.
